Put gun down,take up fork
published: Monday | May 12, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

The world is in a crisis, a food crisis. Jamaica land of wood and water is in a unique position to make a huge impact on alleviating this crisis. Our climate is always good for planting and we have thousands of acres of under-utilised land.

I encourage my fellow Jamaicans to put down the gun and take up a fork. Till the soil. Instead of filling it with blood, water it. Plant nutritious foods such as corn, yam, fruits, vegetables and even cassava.

Lack nothing

An incentive for those who go the route of growing food for the nation should be that their families should lack nothing and be provided with food, clothing, shelter, security, education and health care as a minimum, as the need requires.

We are in crisis mode. The time to act is now. There is still a window of opportunity, so let's gather the people, sell the vision and provide the land.

I am, etc.,

BRADLEY EDWARDS
