NOTE-WORTHY: Undivided loyalty
published: Monday | May 12, 2008

Undivided loyalty

Did you know that Jamaicans renounce their Jamaican citizenship every year in order to take up lucrative United States Federal Government jobs (the fed is the largest employer in the US, employing over two million persons)?

To get most of these jobs it is not only a requirement to be a US citizen, but you must renounce all other 'powers'.

It is not correct to say that we are reducing the talent pool of possible parliamentarians by not allowing dual citizenship holders to serve in Parliament as all dual citizens have the option of doing what Minister Vaz did, he renounced.

Building a country is not like building a business, it's much harder and requires undivided loyalty.

Seeking best friend

I am seeking assistance in finding my very first best friend, whose name is Dalton Martin, aka Sherman.

His last known address was somewhere in the state of Texas in the United States.

He is a regular visitor to my island home (Jamaica) and supposedly does business somewhere in Montego Bay. I can be reached at 803-665-5458.

NW's vision

I read 'Slipstream' and so completely fell in love with the vision that Norman Manley held for Jamaica. Although I'm the outsider looking in, I think he'd be saddened by the path that Jamaica is on.

I've been on that island five times, which doesn't make me an expert - but the social/political/economic problems are and will continue to be devastating to all.

I read The Gleaner daily and am concerned as to how and when better days will come for all Jamaicans.
