Thursdaytalk - Hottest topics on the cocktail circuit

Better segment

1. Was it a case of overreaching? The Jamaican leg of the event was by far the better segment of the show. Grammar and syntax took a beating. There were not enough programmes to guide the audience through the presentation.

New Hummer in town

2.There is a new Hummer in town and the question occupying the minds of many since its arrival is: Who does it really belong to, the businessman, or his son? Well, the Revenue Protection people really don't care who it really belongs to as long as the taxes and duties owed are paid, and to make their point, they and the police made another early morning swoop on the upscale neighbourhood and went in search of documentation.

What's the purpose of the event?

3.Some are saying the recent high-profile event was used to burnish the image of the tarnished one who is known in all circles for his circumnavigation skills. Those who are talking are just hoping that he was made to pay a hefty price for the association.

Strike a pose!

4.Some say that, in the United States and other parts of the world, it's the paparazzi who hound those they would like to photograph, but here in Kingston, it's a different matter altogether, as once some people see a camera, they elbow all others out of the way and 'strike a pose'.

Who is next?

5.Seems like she is determined to sully all her competitors in her quest to be Queen. Who is next on her list?

It was pure sham!

6.It was supposed to be a marriage of convenience - he wanted a Green Card, and she wanted access to the Caribbean. And, according to insiders, the marriage was never consummated because they are of differing persuasions. Now word is leaking out that she has filed for divorce and is seeking a half of his assets. What has some people's knickers in a knot is the fact that, at the outset, she was paid handsomely for the marriage and knew it to be nothing more than a sham.

Empty cupboards

7.The guardian of the family fortune was getting on in age and, in her own words, was getting "a touch forgetful". To stave off any legal encumbrances that might have arisen, she called in the trusted god-daughter and signed over everything - land, deeds and bank accounts - to the said god-daughter. Other members of the family became suspicious after her lavish wedding, trip to Europe and a new found penchant for Lalique and Lladro. Seems like their suspicions were well founded as they recently found out that the cupboards have been bare for some time now.

'Internal party matter?'

8.Residents are asking why the political leaders won't step in to quell the bloodletting after the recent upsurge of violence in the community. Is this "an internal party matter" being carried over from the death of the 'Area Leader'?

Public question

9.The question is, did the person resign or was asked to?

Election debate

10. Some political insiders are saying that, with the recent spate of price increases, the window of opportunity for a general election has been closed, leaving the party with not too many options but to make do with its slim majority. Others are still agitating for new elections while some say now is too dicey. The debate rages!
