NOTE-WORTHY: Fighting back
published: Thursday | May 8, 2008

Fighting back

Every morning I wake up to the statistic of the number of deaths we had the night before. Why are we making a handful of criminals put fear in the hearts of thousands of law-abiding citizens. Let us all pool together and help our country. Citizens, let's call the police when you know where the criminals are; witnesses, please turn up for court; let's us transfer the fear into these criminals. As we approach National Heroes Day, let us remember how our heroes fought hard and died to give us this beautiful land so we can live in peace and harmony. Let's take back our country because we are not running away.

Farmers unite!

Farmers must stick together if they are to survive the waves of thieves that come against them. Together they stand or divided they will fall. Farmers need to be the first defence against thieves. Remember the home guards of the '70s. It will take the coming together of the farming communities pooling their human resources to help stop this national disgrace.

Returnee view

I agree with Beverley Jones in her letter 'Reluctant returnees' in Wednesday's Gleaner. Why should Jamaicans who have pledged allegiance to foreign countries not be allowed to participate in the government? Is it only our money that is considered Jamaican? We build houses in Jamaica with the intention of coming back home, we send remittances to family and friends and we save our money in the banks, yet we are not considered Jamaicans. If so, it is time we look elsewhere to invest our money where we will be appreciated.

Abolish garrisons

When Darius took possession of the throne of Babylon, he at once proceeded to reorganise the government. When the present Prime Minister of Jamaica took over he attempted to do just that.

One very important thing that should be done is to abolish the garrisons. Having garrisons where one member of another party cannot enter and, of course, those in authority obviously will turn a blind eye to certain activities. These places left alone become dens of criminal activities. It is no use we complain about crime when the criminals are shielded at times by the same people who should know better.
