Bonner smashes double century

WEST INDIES Under-19 all-rounder Nkrumah Bonner scored an impressive double century to lead St Catherine Parish to first innings points over Portland in the Jamaica Cricket Association's Senior Cup on the weekend at Port Esquivel.

St Catherine's massive 355-7 declared was built around Bonner's 208 (17x4, 7x6) but set 91 for victory over Portland, they failed to get the required single off the last ball of the match, which handed them only first innings points in the exciting contest. Brenton Beckford was stumped off the last ball.

Final scores: Portland 224 (Emilio Reid 52; Brenton Beckford 2-61, Collin Buchanan 2-35, Marlon Hoilette 2-27) and 221 (Oliver Walker 60, Herman Henry 51, Carl Brissett 46 not out; Marlon Hoilette 3-43, Peter Pottinger 3-4, Erron Downer 2-17). St Catherine 355-7 declared (Nkrumah Bonner 208, Dwayne Crosgill 40; Omar Clarke 3-75, Christopher Hall 2-37) and 90-8 (Daren Gray 4-18).

Hanover and St Ann continued their title chases as they secured outright victories in contrasting manners to lead Zone A with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

New entrants crushed

St Ann crushed new entrants G.C. Foster College by an innings and 99 runs, as unbeaten centuries by Marlon Johnson (129) and Xavier Marshall (124) saw them declare at 259 without loss. Six-wicket hauls by the two Andrés, Clarke (6-26) in the first innings and Dwyer (6-42) in the second, secured the easy win.

Final scores: St Ann 259-0 declared (Marlon Johnson 129, Xavier Marshall 124). G.C. Foster 67 (Andre Clarke 6-26, Andre Dwyer 2-19, Marando Walters 2-22) and 93 (Andre Dwyer 6-42).

Hanover, after a tight battle for first innings points, came back strongly through national youth representative Jermaine Blackwood's 6-29, to bowl out Clarendon for an even 100 in their second innings to win by 64 runs at Elgin Town.

Final scores: Hanover 123 (Aldine Samuels 28; Brian Buchanan 2-39, Sherwayne Dixon 3-21, Marcel Parchment 3-2, Krishmar Santokie 2-51) and 158 (Sean Bennett 58; Marcel Parchment 4-39, Krishmar Santokie 3-51). Clarendon 117 (Mark Ramark 28; Kenneth Beckford 3-48, Bruce Blackwood 3-33, Omar Campbell 2-9) and 100 (Dwayne Mahabir 23; Jermaine Blackwood 6-29, Bruce Blackwood 2-22).

Lucas, Kingston and St Andrew win

In other matches, Lucas and Kingston and St Andrew scored nine-wicket victories over St Thomas and Boys' Town, respectively.

At Goodyear Oval: St Thomas 134 (Raul McFarlane 32; Omar Burke 3-17, Gary Herbine 3-48, Dwight Guthrie 2-25) and 151 (Orlando Jameson 45; Omar Burke 3-38, Dwight Guthrie 3-48). Lucas 235 (Gary Herbine 70, Wayne Gayle 50; Omar Brooks 5-51, Ryan Brown 3-37) and 51-1.

At Collie Smith Drive: Boys' Town (Marlon Keating 42; Winston Walker 4-30, Gary Pink 2-8) and 74 (Winston Walker 4-16, Anthony Brown 3-15, Renar Ross 3-28). Kingston and St Andrew 152-7 declared (Damion Foster 58, Gary Pink 31; Phillip Keating 5-67) and 18-1.

After four rounds, points standing: Zone A: Kensington (18), Portland (14), Lucas (13), St Catherine Parish (nine), Kingston & St. Andrew (6), St Thomas (6) and Boys' Town (zero). Zone B: Hanover (16), St Ann (15), Police (13), Clarendon (7), St James (6), St Mary (5), G.C. Foster College (1).
