Reluctant returnees
published: Wednesday | May 7, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

We as Jamaicans who have sworn allegiance to another country and would love to return home are very reluctant to do so because of the fact we are not considered Jamaican first.

We are being pushed aside when we could make great contribution to the country. Although we have pledged allegiance to another country, we love our country of birth.

What we need to do is stop sending money to our relatives who are still there and see what would happen. The same way that the country needs our remittances why are we not allowed to participate in the Government is some way?

It is a disgrace the way they are treating the people who have returned home and would like to make a contribution to the country.

The Government needs to amend the Constitution to allow us to participate.

I am, etc.,
