NOTE-WORTHY: Sadness for Walker
published: Wednesday | May 7, 2008

Sadness for Walker

I read the article about Danville Walker's resignation with sadness in my heart.

Something must be wrong with how we go about tending to the affairs of our country when a man who has been so productive, a man who had the 'guts' to reform a system that was beyond corrupt should feel like he had no option but to walk away.

Kudos to Broilers

Hats of to Jamaica Broilers and the churches. I am very impressed with what Robert Levy and the churches did. We need more of these events in our island.

It was a blessing to see so many people coming together for one cause to lift up the name of Jesus Christ. Thank you very much, Mr Levy and the churches. May God continue to bless you.

Hostile trend

There is a growing trend among students, parents and sometimes teachers staging protests in an atmosphere of hostility.

This kind of behaviour benefits no one. We should never lose sight of the fact that a child's perception of reality is different from an adult's because the latter is guided by experience.

It is expected that social institutions such as, the family and the school, should set the tone for students. They are the main agents of socialisation. They should work together to amicably resolve any conflict that might arise among parents, teachers and students.

It should not be that students are at the forefront of demonstrations, because these seemly fiesty students have feet of clay, that need solid ground to stand on.

No piped water

The excuse given by NWC that it is unable to deliver water to some people because of poor settlement planning is a bundle of baloney. I live in Mandeville (just behind NCU) and I have not had water in my pipe since 2006.

I depend on rain and trucked water, and the NWC said the prognosis for improvement is exceedingly poor. My story can be repeated dozens of times. We need something to be done about this. I have written to the NWC, the former minister (Buchanan), but no hope is on the horizon.
