Waulgrovians, Jamalco clash
published: Tuesday | May 6, 2008

Robert Bailey, Freelance Writer

Defending champions Jamalco will oppose archrivals Waulgrovians 'A' in today's feature game of the Jamaica Netball Association's (JNA) Berger Paints Super League at the Leila Robinson Courts starting at 5:45 p.m.

In another interesting game, also set for 5:45, Arnett Gardens will tackle Windalco.

Jamalco lead the standings with 21 points followed by Waulgrovians and Tivoli Gardens 'A' who are both tied for second place with 18 points. Windalco and Jetsetters 'A' are also tied for third spot with 12 points each.

"I am very confident that we are going to win this game and remain unbeaten in this competition," Wayne Shaw, manager of Jamalco said yesterday.

"I think it is going to be a close and competitive game because they have a number of present and former national players in their line-up," he said.

Shaw added that his team has been playing good netball in all areas and they are getting fitter and better as the season goes on.

A strong bench

"From watching them (Waulgrovians) I realise that they do not have a strong bench and so as the game goes on their starters will become tired and we are going to use our bench to beat them," Shaw stated.

Jamalco will be relying heavily on national representatives, goal shooter Elaine Davis, centre Nadine Bryan and goal defence Nicole Aiken.

Simone Forbes, vice-captain of Waulgrovians said: "It is going to be quite an interesting and keenly contested game by both teams because both sides have a lot of experienced players.

Waulgrovians will pin their hopes on national player and goal defence Nichala Gibson, former national captain Oberon Pitterson and goal shooter Suzette DeSouza.
