Levy and Cohen shine at Alliance U-12 tournament

SIMON LEVY and Erin Cohen were crowned winners in their respective sections as the Alliance Investment Management national 12 and Under tennis tournament came to a close at Eric Bell Tennis Centre on Wednesday.

Levy topped the boys' division following an 8-3 victory over Hillel schoolmate and cousin Dylan Levy while Immaculate's Cohen copped the girls' title after defeating teammate Melissa Martin 8-6 in a close battle. Simon Levy advanced to the final after defeating Roger Lyn Jr 3-1 in best-of-five games semi-finals while Dylan Levy turned back Simon Ho-On by the same score.

Faced off

Martin and Cohen faced off in the final after respective semi-final wins over Chenelle Estrene and Jesse Bicknell.

Overall, 19 schools entered the first regional tournament of the competition in the eastern zone, which includes St Andrew, Portland, St Catherine and St Thomas. Ninety-five boys and 44 girls entered the tournament and eight boys and eight girls have advanced to the one-day national finals. The competition will continue next week with the South Central, North Central and Western legs of the competition being played.
