BRIEFS: Powell out
published: Saturday | April 26, 2008

PHILADELPHIA :

Asafa Powell, the world's fastest man, has been ruled out of today's USA vs The World 4x100m clash at the 114th Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania, Franklin Field.

Jill M. Geer, United States of America Track & Field (USATF) director of communications, told a press conference that Powell will miss the meet because of an injury.

"Asafa's manager (Paul Doyle) said Powell will not be able to run at the meet because he is in Florida receiving treatment," she said.

Geer said they are disappointed that Powell will not be fit enough to face American Tyson Gay in today's relay.

WI confident

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

West Indies will be looking to rebound in the CLICO International Under-15 Championship, when they take on Bangladesh in the opening match of the one-day league phase today at Queen's Park Oval.

The regional team suffered a heartbreaking, two-run loss to Pakistan in the knock-out final on Thursday at Warner Park in St Kitts and will be hoping to put that disappointment behind them and mount a stern challenge for the league title.

"Despite the loss, we will be using this round robin series to lift our game. We still remain confident that we will still win this phase of the cham-pionships." said West Indies skipper Steven Katwaroo.

In the other match, Kenya and Ireland will clash at the National Cricket Centre at Balmain, Couva.
