Tivoli look to rebound in tough clash
published: Saturday | April 26, 2008

Robert Bailey, Freelance Writer

Leaders Waulgro-vians and Tivoli Gardens 'A' will square-off in today's big game, in the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA)/Berger Paints Super League competition at the Leila Robinson Courts, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Also at the same time, Jetsetters 'A' entertain defending champions Jamalco. In the day's other Super League games, at 6:15 p.m., Molynes United oppose Windalco and Police 'A' battle Tivoli Gardens 'B'.

Leading standings

Waulgrovians lead the standings with 18 points, three ahead of Jamalco (15) who have a game in hand, while Tivoli Gardens are in third spot (15) and Windalco fourth on nine.

Waulgrovians are unbeaten this season and will be seeking their sixth victory.

"It is going to be a very competitive game," said Simone Forbes, vice-captain of Waulgrovians. "We are very confident in our abilities because individually we are very good and as a team I think we are pulling it together and that is really what is important for us."

Forbes added that it is going to come down to who wants it the most, and the team that takes care of the ball is the team that is going to win.

"It is also going to be a very hard fought game. We just have to make sure that we make the shots and not play around with the ball because they are tall and so we have to vary our passes in the circle," Forbes assessed.

"We know that Tivoli Gardens 'A' is a good team and they want to win and finish in the top two. However,we have to go into the game believing in our abilities and work together as a team because that is the only way we can beat them," Forbes explained.

First defeat

Tivoli Gardens 'A', who earlier captured the Open Rally title, suffered their first defeat to Jamalco last Saturday and according to their coach, Sylvester Campbell, his team is ready for the challenge.

"Anyone of the three top teams can win whenever they play against each other and I feel the same about Waulgrovians because if you don't play your best game on the day they will knock you out," said Campbell.

"I know that Waulgrovians have very strong and mentally tough players," Campbell said. "I think we are ready for the challenge and the fact that we have lost to Jamalco gives us more reason to fight and so we are going into this game with everything blazing," Campbell added.
