Performer of the week - Nikita trumps T&T
published: Saturday | April 26, 2008

Nikita Miller ... claimed first five-wicket haul for Jamaica. - File

HAVING TAKEN five for 29 against Trinidad and Tobago on the opening day of the five-day Carib Beer Challenge Trophy cricket final at Sabina Park on Thursday, Jamaica's left-arm spinner Nikita Miller is the Performer of the Week.

Miller, who hails from St Elizabeth, represents Melbourne Kangaroos in the current Super League and only last Sunday underlined his good form by taking seven for 34 against defending champions St Elizabeth Sharks at Alpart to secure first innings points for Melbourne.

Penetrative bowling

The lanky 25-year-old took his form into the Challenge final as, thanks to some penetrative bowling, he restricted the strong Trinidad and Tobago batting line-up to a paltry first innings total of 121.

He claimed five for 29 off 18.4 overs (five maidens) to record his first five-wicket haul in a first-class match.

Bowling from the George Headley Stand end, Miller picked up the wickets of Darren Bravo for 12 and Lendl Simmons without scoring as Trinidad and Tobago slumped to 54 for five and 65 for six.

Miller is a past student of St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) and represented the many-time champions in the Headley Cup competition in the late '90s. He also played Under-19 cricket for Jamaica
