Sporting slide into top six
published: Thursday | April 17, 2008

Dwight Nelson, Gleaner Writer

SPORTING CENTRAL Academy and Seba United played to an exciting 2-2 draw in the National Premier League at Brancourt yesterday, a result which boosted the former into the all-important top six of the league.

It was an exciting game as Sporting started in an attacking mood and made several early advances at the Seba goal area.

A cracker

Sporting could have taken the lead in the 30th minute when Owen Gordon picked up a ball midway in the field and dribbled into the Seba goal area before firing a cracker at the Seba goal which rebounded off the upright. Ian Palmer then pushed Sporting into the lead in the 43rd minute when he tapped a ball from a cross into the Seba goal, past custodian Jacomeno Barrett.

Attack

Seba came out on the attack in the second half and drew level in the 58th minute when Kemar James converted from a corner kick.

Seba then appeared to gain momentum and could have taken the lead a minute later when Kemiel Moodie shot from 40 yards out but Sporting 'keeper Erron Brown deflected the ball from goal.

Seba took the lead in the 63rd minute when Kemar Mills picked up a ball on the edge of Sporting Central's 18-yard box and fired past Brown.

However, not to be outdone, Sporting drew level on the stroke of fulltime when Gregory Lewis fired from edge of the 18-yard box past Barrett.

"This was not the type of result we were looking for, however we just have to settle for a place in the bottom six," said Seba coach Theodore Whitmore after the game.

Meanwhile, Chris Dawes, coach of Sporting, said: "It was an exciting encounter and I am happy today that we have advanced to the top six".
