No prizes for false start
published: Wednesday | April 16, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

I must disagree with Dr Warren Blake's Letter of the Day - "Some implications of the Vaz court ruling" - published yesterday, where he argues that the ruling on Daryl Vaz's case should automatically cede the seat to Mr Dabdoub.

The election was nullified by Vaz's participation. He should not have been allowed to run; but he was, and more people voted for him than Dabdoub.

Tough luck for Dabdoub that he ran in a race that should not have been sanctioned. There are no prizes for winning such races. View it as a sprint with a false start but all the athletes continue running. Who wins?

I am, etc.,
