Kensington among outright winners
published: Tuesday | April 15, 2008

St Ann, Kensington, Lucas and Portland all recorded victories in last weekend's second round of matches in the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Senior Cup.

At Collie Smith Drive: Left-arm spinner Dennis Bulli completed a match-haul of 10-46 for Kensington to beat Boys' Town by 10 wickets.

Bulli took 5-19 in Boys' Town's first innings of 81, then returned 5-27 in their second innings of 77.

When Kensington batted, another left-arm spinner, former Jamaica youth player Phillip Keating, took 8-58, but his effort was in vain as after dismissing the opponents for 156 (Ryan Francis 70), they only had an impossible six runs to defend in the second innings.

Time out

At Nelson Oval: Wayne Gayle's century guided Lucas to an innings and 52-run win over Kingston and St Andrew.

Gayle, the brother of West Indies skipper Chris, hammered 126 in Lucas' 336 for five declared. Royan Smith supported with 77, while Gary Pink took 2-69.

Kingston and St Andrew were dismissed for 112 with Markon Guy taking 3-32, Dwight Guthrie 2-17, Gary Herbine 2-1 and Royan Smith 2-7, while Pink, who was not out on 35 overnight, turned up late to resume his innings on Sunday, and was ruled 'time-out'.

Blown away

In the second innings, Kingston and St Andrew were dismissed for 172. Pink again top-scored with 35. Guthrie took 3-20, Herbine 2-35 and Ransford Merchant 2-29.

At Goodyear Oval: Carl Brissett completed a 10-wicket match haul to bowl Portland to a nine-wicket win over St Thomas.

St Thomas were blown away for 89 with Brissett taking 4-22 in the first innings. Batting a second time, Brissett took 6-23 as St Thomas made 140.

Portland made 191 for eight declared and 40-1.

At St Ann Bauxite: André Dwyer ended with a match haul of 7-89 to lead St Ann to a 10-wicket win over Clarendon.

Clarendon dismissed

Dwyer, who played two matches for Jamaica, took 3-47 to help dismiss Clarendon for 177 in their first innings, with Errol Thomas scoring 42. Dwyer then returned 4-42 as Clarendon fell for 117 in its second innings.

André Clarke (2-13) and Ricardo D'acres (2-28) supported Dwyer, who recently rejoined St Ann from Manchester Lions.

Leon Garrick (82) and Orville Pennant (58) led St Ann's batting effort - 255 for six declared - in their first innings. In their second innings tally of 38 without loss, Xavier Marshall hit 28.

In other matches, St Mary 176 (Anthony Walters 55 not out; Rajiv Chattrie 3-62) and 188-6 declared (Tyson Gordon 61; Joseph Lemmie 2-68) took first innings points from G.C. Foster 162 (Joseph Lemmie 32; Marlon Byfield 6-36) and 114-3 (Jaipaul Powell 34 not out; Andre Creary 3-34).
