Being gay not by choice
published: Tuesday | April 15, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

The same way no one had/has a choice in being born, no one chooses to be 'gay'. One would have to be insane to choose a lifestyle with so much social ignorance assaulting her/him. The only choice a gay person makes in his/her life is to be truthful about one's orientation. Try living a lie; any lie, eventually catches up.

The writer whose grandchild is gay, should be aware of human psychology sufficiently, to understand that those who stand around and cast aspersions on others do so to deflect attention from themselves. At least this has been my experience. And I could begin naming names. But this is mundane behaviour, since I have already had my vindication.

Be grateful

Instead of being embarrassed for your grandchild, be grateful for his strength of character in standing up for who he is. Be loving, supportive, and understanding, also.

I am, etc.,
