SAL to expand security services
published: Tuesday | April 15, 2008

Security Administrators Limited (SAL), the main provider of maritime security and related services on the Port of Kingston, is expanding its services to offer industrial security services. The move is a part of SAL's growth plan for 2008, in addition to the joint agreement with the Caribbean Maritime Institute to conduct an advanced port facility security officers course and a bachelor of science degree in industrial and port security management.

Up to January 2008, SAL's main role in security on the Port of Kingston was to provide specialist maritime security which included coordinating, monitoring and supervising of all industrial sub-contracted security officers. However, since February of this year, the company has created a department to deal specifically with industrial security on the port. "We made the decision that we would go into that arena because of our experience and expertise and because the clients have wished it," Captain John Ulett explained.

Based on the success of the new department, SAL is now putting plans in place to establish an industrial security company to compete in the marketplace islandwide and regionally. Captain Ulett notes that SAL will no longer sub-contract private industrial security on the port after the new company is formed. The plan is to "provide an expansion of industrial security services islandwide", Captain Ulett points out.

SAL is a recognised security organisation appointed by the Port Authority of Jamaica, in keeping with the International Ship & Port Facility Security Code. They are also accredited the International Maritime Organisation as certified security trainers and offers maritime security training for port facility security officers.
