Jamalco net three straight
published: Monday | April 14, 2008

Defending champions Jamalco registered their third consecutive victory in this year's Jamaica Netball Association (JNA)/Berger Paints Super League, scoring an easy 55-33 win over sister team Windalco on Saturday night at the Leila Robinson Courts.

Margaret Byfeild led the way for Jamalco with 32 goals from 35 attempts and received solid support from Marsha Murphy, who scored 23 goals from 25 tries. Diana Millwood, with 20 goal from 26 attempts and Stacy-Ann Brown, who sunk 13 from 17 tries, netted the goals for Windalco.

In another game, Police 'A' recorded their first victory with an exciting 50-45 success over winless Molynes United 'A', and Tivoli Gardens 'A' chalked up their fourth victory, beating Jetsetters 'A' 52-46.

Cleopatra Grant led the way for the West Kingston-based Tivoli with 46 goals from 66 attempts, while former national player Jodian French scored four goals from seven tries. Crystal Gordon, with 33 goals from 41 tries and Anette Miller, who scored 13 from 22 attempts, accounted for Jetsetters 'A's goals.

Easy win

Waulgrovians 'A' also recorded an easy win, 63-49 over Arnett Gardens.

Suzette DeSuza led the way for Waulgrovians 'A' with 37 from 46 attempts and received solid support from national representative Simone Forbes, who netted 26 of 36 tries.

Kadian Mendez, with 30 from 43 shooting and Shelly-Ann Williams, 19 of 26, scored for Arnett Gardens.

Hughan McCleary, coach of Police 'A' was happy for this team's victory.

"Is was a very challenging and tough game for us because this is a very competitive team and with their national shooter Christina (Solmon) is was always going to be difficult. But the players stuck to the task and we were able to come out on top," said McCleary.

"We are now looking forward to the quarter-finals and so from here on all the matches are geared towards this. We want to get into the top four and this means that we will have to train much harder and do what we need to do to get to that level," McCleary added.

Tired

Roy Price, coach of Molynes United 'A', said: "I think the girls got a bit tired in the last quarter because we are not really training like how we should have been doing."

Price added that it was an excellent game because both teams played well and even though they tried their best, it was just not good enough.

"This is our first year in the Super League and we are still adapting to it even though we are losing matches and if we are there next year and with a few additions I think we will be a lot more competitive," Price explained.

Deonie Gordon led the scoring for Police 'A' with 28 goals from 36 attempts and received solid support from Niesha Howard, who scored 21 of 26 tries. Solmon was the main contributor for her team with 39 goals from 44 attempts.
