Western Bureau:

Wadadah and Negril sealed their place in the final of the Captain's Bakery Western Super Football League when they emerged victorious against Granville and Salt Spring, respectively, in Saturday night's second leg semi-final double-header at Jarrett ParK, in Montego Bay.

In their game against Granville, who held them to a first leg 0-0 draw, it took a 4-2 penalty shoot-out win to give Wadadah victory as regulation and extra-time play had ended with the teams in a 2-2 deadlock.

In the other game, first leg 1-2 losers Negril rallied to beat Salt Spring 2-0, which saw them advancing 3-2 on aggregate.

In the feature game, which was an intriguing contest, Wadadah took a 60th minute lead through the wily Curtis Palmer. But Granville came storming back to draw level from the penalty spot in the 75th minute through Jermaine Anderson, before taking a 79th minute lead through Odane Snow.

Lifeline

However, with defeat looking imminent, Wadadah got a lifeline in the 89th minute when Granville's goalkeeper Nicolas Steadman surprisingly failed to gather a speculative long range shot by Raphael Palmer, which slipped through his fingers and bounced into the goal, making the score 2-2 at the end of regulation time.

With extra-time yielding no goal, Wadadah proved the better team from the penalty shoot-out, scoring all four shots taken, while Granville missed twice through Christopher Curry and Damion Reid.

"It was a very good game but thankfully we were able to hold our nerves when it mattered most," said Wadadah's coach Delroy Delisser. "Granville is a good team so I am sure they will rise again."

In the first game, Negril started off with a bang and struck in the fourth minute when Rohan Campbell broke through the Salt Spring defence and crashed home from close range, making the score 1-0 and levelling the two-way tie 2-2 on aggregate.

With Salt Spring fighting gallantly midway the second half, Negril struck a decisive blow in the 68th minute when a curling corner kick by Oshane Hill squeezed between the goalkeeper, Davin Watkins, and the near post, giving them a 2-0 win.

"It was a great performance today because we came here knowing we had to win and the players rose to the occasion," said Negril's coach Jermaine Green. "We are extremely confident that we are going to go all the way."
