Fraser scores in opener
published: Monday | April 14, 2008

MIAMI, Florida (CMC):

Jamaican midfielder Sean Fraser netted one of Miami FC's goals as they drew 2-2 with Charleston Battery when the United Soccer Leagues (USL) First Division season kicked off Saturday.

Fraser scored a go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute but visiting Charleston got a 90th minute equalizer to share the points at Tropical Park Stadium.

Miami led twice in the match but failed to hold on to their advantage.

Alex Alfonso sent them ahead after just 11 minutes when he headed in a cross from Leandro Mineiro.

Charleston, with the Trinidad and Tobago international Randi Patterson in their side, drew level in the 63rd minute when Dominic Cianciarulo smashed a ferocious shot past Josh Saunders in Miami's goal.

It became 2-1 when Fraser netted a beauty eight minutes before the final whistle.

Overlapping left flank defender Walter Ramirez dribbled inside and fed Fraser, who shrugged off three Charleston defenders and fired a superb shot into the back of the net.

Miami appeared set to collect maximum points but Cianciarulo capitalized on an untidy clearance and scored in the last minute.

In the other season-opener, the Vancouver Whitecaps came up with a 1-0 home victory over the Montreal Impact on an Eduardo Sebrango first-half goal.
