An impressive 67th minute goal from Mitchily Waul gave August Town a much needed 1-0 victory over Sporting Central Academy in National Premier League action at the University of the West Indies Bowl yesterday.

August Town, who sat at the bottom of the league standings for several weeks, have now moved into 10th place, having increased their tally to 33 points.

Waul, Daniel Shaw and Ziecko Herrera led the charge for August Town.

Within the last few weeks August Town have improved their form significantly, drawing 2-2 in their last encounter against Reno and previously defeated Arnett Gardens 1-0.

According to August Town's coach Dominick Spaulding, the improved attitude of the players has attributed to the resounding turn-around of the team.

"The players have been adapting quite well. Today's three points is vital to our team as it has lifted us from the bottom of the league. We hope to salvage at least another point to avoid relegation," Spaulding said.

Meanwhile, Sporting Central Academy who remain on 38 points, have been in good form throughout the season but seemed no match for August Town on their home ground.

According to coach Christopher Dawes, the team will have to work much harder in their next encounter to improve their standings in the round.

"The team played badly in the first half. In the second half, they began to move the ball around and created more chances but did not score," Dawes said.

"We will just have to work harder in order to ensure our continued competitiveness in the round," he concluded.
