Nicholy Findlayson scored a last-minute penalty for Reno as the home team earned a point in a hard-fought 2-2 draw with August Town in their Cash Plus-sponsored National Premier League match yesterday at St Elizabeth Technical.
Both teams occupy the relegation spots in the league and hence avoiding defeat seemed central to their game plans. No goals were scored in a highly competitive first half.
The game opened up in the second half and came alive for the spectators when Recardo Scott scored on the rebound from a shot by Findlayson.
August Town answered quickly, and in identical fashion as Mitchly Waul profited from the partial save of goalkeeper Dennis Taylor to equalise in the 71st minute. That strike was used as a momentum to further attack Reno and they went ahead when Jermaine Simpson muscled his way past two Reno defenders to hit decisively past Taylor.
With the crowd spurring on Reno, and August Town desperately hanging on for victory, referee Recardo Sailsman called correctly for a handled ball in the dreaded area, and the calm expertise of Findlayson made sure Reno kept alive their hopes of saving relegation.
