The Church reaches out
published: Monday | April 7, 2008

A number of churches drawn mainly from the Corporate Area are presently conducting a joint evangelistic outreach in eastern Kingston.

In this outreach, primary focus is being directed at McIntyre Villa, Rockfort and McGregor Gully. According to a release from the church grouping, "each community will be targeted for a sustained period ... and the results reviewed and assessed".

The churches that are involved in this outreach are Pentecostal Gospel Temple (Windward Road), Potter's House UPC (Windward Road), Fellowship Apostolic (Camp Road), Bethel United Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic (South Camp Road), Greater Grace Temple (Deanery Road) and New Life Worship Centre (Spanish Town).

Complementing these evangelistic efforts were a number of social intervention activities - children's treat, sports day, health and career fair - all of which was conducted in the McIntyre Villa area during the period March 1-15.

McIntyre Villa will again be the focus of an evangelistic crusade starting yesterday and ending on April 12.

The crusade will take the form of nightly evangelistic services from Sunday to Thursday; a gospel concert on Friday night and a 'Man Talk' discussion session on Saturday.

Renewing old projects

The group of churches will be assisting the McIntyre community in re-establishing and subsequently maintaining its computer centre and the operation of a chicken farm.

In the short term, plans are already in progress to provide assistance to students through a back-to-school drive in August.

In the past, the Pentecostal Gospel Temple has been offering this service to the immediate communities adjoining that church; this will now be extended to the McIntyre community.

The churches are seeking to get the local authorities to address certain drainage problems that have existed in the community over an extended period.
