Cops part of noise problem
published: Thursday | April 3, 2008

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Police officers are not going to switch off sound systems at the designated time because they have become part of the problem and therefore cannot be the solution. Several times I have called the police about gunshots and the very loud music and nothing happens, everything continues until early morning.

Everyone knows that when the police attend a dance venue, it is to collect their pay and not disconnect the sounds. I am not sure how this is going to be policed. None of the dance organisers has respect for time, they don't even think about children who attend their dances or are kept up very late because of the bass vibrating in their rooms.

Order needed

God help us because this problem has got out of hand like the guns; and I don't think we have the capability or will to get Jamaica back from the dancehall organisers.

I am not saying there should be no dances, but there should be order and all music should stop at a reasonable time. How is this going to be achieved when most persons go to these dances at 1 to 2 a.m. and stay until 7 a.m. We will wait and see, but I am convinced that nothing will change and the loud and very late dances will continue and increase in popularity.

I am, etc.,
