Missed chances galore in Montego Bay

Western Bureau:

It was a case of chances going abegging all night long at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay on Sunday night as reigning Cash Plus Premier League champions Harbour View and Seba United battled to a 0-0 draw in an intriguing contest, albeit without goals.

As a result of the shared points, both teams managed to maintain their place in mid-table in the 12-team competition. Harbour View remain fifth on 39 points, while Seba United are one place back in joint sixth with St Georges Sports Club and Village United, on 35 points.

For Harbour View's coach Lenworth Hyde Sr, whose team was appearing on local soil for the first time since they were walloped 5-0 by DC United in their second leg CONCACAF Champions Cup fixture in Washington DC, the result was a satisfying one.

"Seba are a hard running team and they gave us a good fight tonight," said Hyde, noting that a draw was not a bad result for his team. "They managed to get us out of our rhythm on several occasions but we were still able to keep them from scoring on us."

Seba's coach, Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmpre said: "I would have been a lot happier had we scored one of those chances but a draw is nonetheless a fair result," said Whitmore. "As a team we are doing a lot of things right, we just need to start converting our chances."

Opening minutes

The opening minutes of the game belonged to Seba United, which had good back to back early chances by Delroy Ellis who hooked his overhead volley wide in the third minute, and Omar Reid who went in the seventh minute after pouncing on a loose ball before the goal.

Harbour View wasted a glorious opportunity in the 11th minute when Jermaine Hue sent Rafeik Thomas clear with a superb pass. However, Thomas was denied by a brilliant diving save from Jacomeno Barrett in goal for Seba United.

Midway the half Seba missed several chances in rapid succession.

On the stroke of half-time Harbour View breached the Seba defence and looked likely to score, but Fabian Taylor dragged his shot wide after being confronted by goalkeeper Barrett, who had left his line at pace to confront him.

With Seba United looking increasingly ominous, Harbour View brought on Donald Stewart and Kevin Bryan to stem the flow. Stewart created an opening in the 73rd minute when he sent the overlapping Clifton Waugh clear. However, Waugh booted wide of the goal.

In the dying moments Norman Foster summed up an unlucky afternoon for Seba as his savage 35-yard shot struck the left upright.
