SCOTT
NATIONAL senior representative Dorian Scott and former G.C. Foster College representative Orlando Reid were in great form over the weekend as the outdoor track and field season started in the United States.
Scott, who just recently represented Jamaica at the World Indoor Track and Field Championships in Spain, was at his best as competing at the Florida Snowbird Invitational, he recorded a career best and a national record of 20.65 metres to win the shot put Open. He broke his previous best of 20.63 metres.
Reid, who had a good season last year for Middle Tennessee University, was in top form at the Horned Frog Invitational in Texas as he captured the sprint double.
Competing for Reebok Track Club, Reid first clocked 10.44 seconds to win the men's 100 metres Open, then returned later to take the 200 metres in 20.65 seconds.
Several other Jamaicans had good performances at the Snowbird Meet in Florida including Yanique Booth, Nadia Alexander, Deandra Doyley and Phelecia Reynolds.
Good performances
Boothe, the former Queen's School representative, won the 100 metres for women in 11.71 seconds, while Doyley, the former Immaculate Conception High student now competing for Miami University, was successful in the long jump with 5.94 metres and the triple jump with 12.28 metres.
Former St Hugh's representatives Alexander and Reynolds, who now both compete for Louisiana Technical, were second and fourth, respectively, with throws of 46.36 and 44.86 metres in the women's discus.
At the Wake Forest Meet in North Carolina, Allodin Fothergill, who did very well for the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore in the Indoor season, started his outdoor sojourn quietly as he finished fourth in the 200 metres in 21.19 seconds.
At this same meet former Morant Bay High school standout Kimona Smith, now competing for North Carolina A&T University, was second in the women's triple jump with 12.43 metres. She also ended third in the long jump with 5.65 metres.
