Electricity theft unpunished
published: Tuesday | March 25, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

I find it quite strange that so many large companies continue to steal electricity, worth millions of dollars, without appropriate actions being brought against them.

There are also instances where many households in some communities have illegal connections, in plain view of even novices like myself, yet these seem to go unnoticed by persons working for the Jamaica Public Service.

The company seems, however, not to be hesitant to disconnect the power supply of legitimate, hard-working, honest customers who are sometimes a few days late with their payments.

Obviously, our wonderful light and power company is just one more in the long list of individuals/entities in Jamaica who turn their head and a blind eye on dishonesty and mete out punishment for honesty.

I am, etc.,
