NOTE-WORTHY: From the archives

From the archives

As a daughter of Westmoreland, I was interested in reading the article written by Earl Moxam regarding Robert Wedderburn of Westmoreland and Scotland.

Let's have more articles on the historical aspects of our parishes, especially during Black History Month each year. What other historical facts can I hear about? I know about Bustamante and his visits to Frome sugar factory on behalf of the cane cutters during the 1938 impasse, and Lady Bustamante's involvement, but prior to 1938, say during the 18th and 19th centuries, who really were the movers and shakers in Westmoreland? Please dig into your archives, Gleaner. You have information from 1834. Thanks.

How Come?

I read that a large distributor was found with his stores wired with a device which bypasses the meters of Jamaica Public Service. I think the matter was settled and no one was arrested.

It was reported that the loss of revenue was in the millions of dollars. How come no arrest was made? Again, last week I read that a freezone operator has stolen $50m worth of electricity. How come this businessman has not been arrested? Am I right to assume that there is one law for the wealthy and another for the poor?

The poor, usually uninformed and desperate, should be given the breaks. How come we expect to have peace and love when blatant inequities like these are happening every day? How come JPS doesn't have an ad representing high-risk customers? How come?

Pastor lady

Nice story about the pastor lady Mrs Reece 03/22/08. A woman should not minister with her head uncovered, (the Bible.) She has to identify her 'spiritual fathers' so we know who they are! We live by faith and our work is for the glory of the almighty creator "... lest anyone should boast ... " (the Bible.) May the Lord (Jah) guide her in all her works.

Fear of crime

Is it possible for the Government to ask for outside help to fight crime on the island? I am ready to return home but fear for my life. I know they are doing their best with what they have, but more needs to be done. Many people have the same mind as I have to come home. Please help us. KILL THE CRIME!
