Fresh faces of the Caribbean
published: Monday | March 24, 2008

Latoya Grindley, Gleaner Writer

These three young ladies just had their dream come true. They are winners of Saint International's Fashion Face of the Caribbean competition. Top girl Sheena Moulton (centre) is flanked by second-place winner Stacey-Ann Gordon (left) and Anecia Blake who placed third.

At 11:25 on Saturday night, 13-year-old Sheena Moulton and 18-year-old Casmar James became the newest fashion faces of the Caribbean. The show, hosted by Saint International, saw 18 girls and 16 boys vying for the title.

Starting 40 minutes after the scheduled 8 p.m., at the Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston, the contestants stylishly opened the show to the R&B song Superstar. When the curtains opened, the models made their first appearance, dressed in white, complemented by sunglasses, posing and strutting like true and seasoned professionals. They paraded individually along the stage, showcasing their signature walks. During this segment, the screams and shouts made it very clear who the favourites were.

Designer creations were paraded by the contestants as well as other successful Saint International models and Miss Jamaica World 2007 Yendi Phillipps. The designers featured included: Les Campbell, White Skyy, Phillip Reid and Orville Lewis and one could hardly distinguish between the amateurs and professional models.

After the designer showcases and a sneak peek at 'Model Icon', a Saint International television programme and the entertaining performance by international jazz and blues performer, Robin Banks, the contestants and audience were finally put at ease. The agency's ceo, Dewight Peters gave a summary of the judges' findings.

And, 20-year-old Anecia Blake placed third, with crowd favourite 15-year-old Stacey-Ann Gordon second. And, to screams and whistles, an elated Sheena Moulton, the youngest of the 18 females, took her place as Fashion Female Face of the Caribbean 2008.

In the male category, the top three of the 16 males were: Adrian Henry, third place; second place went to 19-year-old John Campbell and 18-year-old Casmar James stood tall as Male Fashion Face of the Caribbean 2008. Both Moulton and James walked away with a development contract courtesy of Saint International and an editorial spread in Jamaque magazine.

Moulton was also awarded an international modelling contract with an overseas agency.

You can never go wrong with black and white, especially when it's put together in a creation like this one worn by Felicity.
