A little over 10 years ago, Sydney and Sophia 'Sunny' Engel gathered with some of the members of the Montego Bay community to establish a chest pain centre in Rose Hall.
What started as the MoBay Hope project is now a stellar medical centre committed to the betterment of health care.
The hospital now offers phlebotomy, obstetrics and gynaecology, among other services. It was the first medical facility outside of Kingston to offer essential services such as CT scans, stress testing, holter monitors and tissue plasminogen activators (TPA). In addition they have ventured into health tourism, offering plastic surgery and providing patients with the option of staying at the Half Moon Hotel to recuperate.
What took place last Saturday evening was nothing short of a celebration. After a lovely tribute to Sydney and Sunny, the proactive pair received awards from MoBay Hope director, Kumar Samtani, as well as an honorary plaque on behalf of the MoBay Hope Medical Centre.
Following a scrumptious dinner and an interesting message from Finance Minister Audley Shaw, Suuny and Sydney opened the dance floor, giving the patrons a little lesson in stepping, before all joined in to end the night dancing to the sounds of Gem Myers and Fab Five.
In attendance were: Deputy Chairman of MoBay Hope Jaime Delgado and his wife Camille, entrepreneur Eugennie Minto, executive director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Jamaica, Becky Stockhausen, and husband Paul, director of finance at the Rose Hall Resort and Country Club Joe Hylton, among others.
