'Incompetence not surprising'
published: Sunday | March 23, 2008

Hopeton Henry, principal of Seaforth High School, St Thomas, said he is not surprised at the findings of the survey.

"Based on my experience, I find that the older teachers have a great phobia for the use of computers," said Henry.

He added: "It is going to take some amount of education and nudging to get these teachers to open up.

"This is why my recruiting is more on the younger teachers from the colleges because they are more flexible and willing," Henry told The Sunday Gleaner yesterday.

He suggested that a time- frame be established for all teachers to become computer literate, just as all teachers have to upgrade their academic standing to at least degree standard by 2015.
