THE EDITOR, Sir:
Having been involved in all aspects of Jamaica agriculture for 45 continuous years, including, during this period, the importation and distribution of fertilisers (and at present my company is one of the distributors of the local factory, Newport-Fersan (Jamaica) Ltd) I have, naturally, an open eye for this sector.
The Ministry of Agriculture ran an advertisement on Page B4 of The Gleaner of March 18, which could be grossly confusing and misleading to the farming community, as it was wrongly construed, I refer to the paragraph which reads:
"Farmers should note these prices and report any outlet that sells fertiliser blends above the maximum recommended prices to the RADA parish office nearest to them."
This should instead have read:
"Farmers should note these prices and report to the RADA parish office nearest to them, any outlet which sells these blended fertilisers above the maximum recommended price."
The advertisement could be read to mean that retail outlets sell fertilisers to the RADA parish offices, and this is certainly not so.
