The Editor, Sir:
I have been following the articles about the Royal Rest Cemetery and realised that this is a very unfortunate situation for the owners of the cemetery and the people in the communities, who are concerned about their drinking water being contaminated. Obviously, people are very logical about their concerns, so the big question is how to get results so that business can go on.
My suggestion would be: hire an independent group of specialists to once again test to see if there is a chance of formaldehyde getting into the drinking water, since most of us are aware that formaldehyde is carcinogenic and with exposure over time can cause reproductive toxicity, respiratory toxicity, skin sensitivity, or liver or gastrointestinal toxicity.
With that being said, here is a website that can be accessed to give more information on the topic of formaldehyde in drinking water: www.ewg.org/tapwater/contaminations. After I read this article I realised that formaldehyde is in more common household cleaners, filters, carpets, etc, than you realise. So that everyone can get back to their lives with peace of mind, everyone needs to attend a meeting and get everyone on the same page. If you're not part of the solution then you're part of the problem. I wish well for all parties involved but there is plenty of information about the contamination of drinking water available online.
