Jamaica's number one beer company, Red Stripe, has again been named the 'best', for the fourth time in three decades.
The company was selected as 2007 recipient of the 'Best of Chamber' award from the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce last Thursday in recognition for its contribution to the local economy.
Red Stripe edged out Jamaica Money Market Brokers Limited and Digicel Jamaica, who were short listed for the top prize.
The company first earned the award in 1984, then trading as Desnoes and Geddes under local ownership, and again in 2001 and 2004.
Its the only company to earn the award four times; followed by Bank of Nova Scotia, a three-time recipient.
OTHER AWARDS
Red Stripe scored strong points in satisfying the Best of Chamber criteria, which calls for the highest levels of sector performance and best practices in the areas of product and service quality, increase in net worth, human resource development and corporate citizenship, said the JCC in a release.
Entrepreneurial awards went to Digicel Jamaica, Tropical Battery and Sanmerna Paper Products in the large, medium and small company categories. respectively.
Manchester Chamber of Commerce won the Best Parish Chamber award, while Jamaica National Building Society won for community service.
GraceKennedy Limited, Ammar's and Azar Limited won Praetorian awards.
Elizabeth Hartley received the Individual Chamber Member award for long-standing contributions to the work of the JCC, while Sameer Younis received the Individual Community Services Award for civic service, particularly for his work through the JCC's inner-city development committee.
