5. Attractions

FIVE must-visit attractions in Jamaica. They say Jamaica is the land of wood and water; however, they forgot to include it's also the land of exquisite sites and attractions. Many places come to mind but these five stand out among the rest.

Blue Mountains - Despite the peak being 7,402ft which takes an average of three-four hours to hike, once you make it to the top and experience the sunrise, it makes the journey worthwhile.

Dunns River - The Dunns River Falls experience is all about tackling the climb up the rocky fall.

Blue Lagoon - Over 178ft deep, the bottomless lagoon is perhaps one of the most famous spots in Portland.

Rose Hall Great House - A tour through this impressive property, once owned by Annie Palmer, the White Witch of Rose Hall, is bound to captivate your mind and body, and most of all play with your imagination.

Ricks Café - A 40ft cliff, crystal blue waters, and a bit of being care-free is all needed when one visits the world famous Ricks Café located in Negril.

4. National heroes

Four people who should be considered National Heroes. When we think of heroes, names like Marcus Garvey, Sam Sharpe and Norman Manley come to mind. Nevertheless, there are other persons who surely deserve such a title and honour for their contribution to our society.

Donald Quarrie - With several medals under his belt; Mr Quarrie continues to share his talents with other aspiring athletes' as a sport agent and a manager.

Edna Manley - Wife of Norman Manley and Mother of Michael Manley, its unimaginable not to have her on this list; imagine Jamaica without the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.

Jimmy Cliff - Just another brilliant talent who has carried Jamaican music all over the globe.

Oliver Samuels - He has exposed the richness of Jamaican comedy overseas but he most of all continues to make Jamaica laugh from generation to generation.

3. Plays

Three of the best plays since the start of the year:

Patrick Brown's River Bottom (family play)

Paul Beale's Like Father, Like Son (roots play)

The Perfect Setup (more mature group).

2. Dance moves

Two dance moves to avoid :

Richie Stephens dance - No disrespect to Richie Stephens but one recommends that you enjoy his singing prowess and not his infamous dance move.

Drop dead - Dropping oneself to the floor isn't appealing unless your clothes are dust proof and you clearly enjoy playing in the dirt.

1. Book

One book everyone must have:

Our Daily Bread - Even if you're not a Christian, Our Daily Bread provides inspirational and uplifting stories virtually guaranteed to raise anyone's spirit.
