Rap it up - The importance of cases
published: Saturday | March 15, 2008

Payton H. Wilmott, Gleaner Writer

New devices and gadgets are always being released and their price tags never seem to go down, so it is only wise to protect these items with cases. Today, we will take a look at cases for four item categories: cameras, pocket PCs (personal computers), cellphones and laptops.

Laptops

Persons who use laptops are divided into two sub-categories: business users and casual users.

Business users are persons who need to move around with their laptop and a large amount of documents for everyday use.

The recommended item: This laptop case for the business user has separate storage compartments. One compartment should hold your laptop and the others should hold your business documents. Last but not least, the case should be extra padded and come with a strap for the everyday hustle.

Casual users are persons who only walk around with their laptops when it's extremely necessary. Also, the casual user does not like to move around with large and heavy equipment.

- The recommended item: This laptop case for the casual user is relatively small, and fits the required laptop exactly. The case should be lightly padded and a strap attached for easy mobility.

Cameras

When you are dealing with cases for cameras, it's a simple situation of what to and what not to buy.

What not to buy: Don't buy a camera case that doesn't have a strap to secure it around your neck or shoulder. Definitely don't purchase a camera case that is not sufficiently padded to protect the camera when it is dropped.

What to buy: a camera case that comes with extra compartments to carry spare batteries, and cables to be ready for any situation that may arise.

Phones and pocket PCs

Persons who use cellphones and pocket PCs are divided into two subcategories: In-house users and outdoor users.

In-house users are persons who use their device mostly in doors in a non-hazardous environment, such as an office.

- The recommended item: a case that allows quick access to the device while providing basic protection.

Outdoor users are persons who use their device frequently outdoors in perilous environments, such as a construction site.

- The recommended item: cases that totally cover the device and have a clip to fasten to your garment, for example your belt loop.

Conclusion

It doesn't spell sense if you buy a phone for $53,000.00 (like an Iphone) and don't even protect your investment by purchasing a case for it. So to be safe and keep what you have in good condition, rap it up, get a case for it.
