LETTER OF THE DAY - Jamaica needs a general overhaul
The Editor, Sir: It never ends. Now it is about the youth. The recent report on the front page of The Gleaner - Sex in schools - is yet another cause for serious concern. Imagine students having sex openly on the school compound to the extent that it is being photographed....

Training, not guns, is the problem

The Editor, Sir: MY subject is the proposed withdrawal of M16 assault rifles from the JCF and their replacement with MP5s which are considered to be less lethal. Pardon me for being sceptical, but doesn't an Mp5 use 9mm ordnance (38cal) which leaves the gun barrel at around 900 feet...

Removing the loopholes for corruption

The Editor, Sir: I agree with Francis Tulloch, a politician with much experience, as he argues for government to remove the many loopholes that permit corruption, or more properly, which tempt politicians and others into unethical behaviour....

Falmouth lagoon is threatened

The Editor, Sir: Going, going, gone is the cry at the auction block. Today, we are witnessing another sale of our freedom with the dredging scheduled for the Falmouth harbour to create a cruise ship pier 15 to 20 minutes drive from the ones in Montego Bay.

Police not proactive

The Editor, Sir: The motto of the Jamaican Constabulary Force (JCF) is 'We Protect, Reassure and Serve'. However, many of our police officers are not living up to their motto as they fail miserably in making the citizens of this country feel protected...
