T&T power past Windwards
published: Tuesday | March 11, 2008

ROSEAU, Dominica (CMC):

West Indies players Dwayne Bravo and Denesh Ramdin posted a 60-run, sixth wicket partnership to steer Trinidad and Tobago to a three-wicket victory over the Windward Island in their fifth round Carib Beer Cup match at the Windsor Park yesterday.

The home team did not go down without a fight as the tourists were made to work hard for every run.

Chasing 185 for an outright win on the final day, T&T reached 188 for seven, 45 minutes before the tea interval with Bravo finishing 37 not out and Ramdin dismissed for 31 as his side neared their target. The effort from the duo was required after T&T, resuming at nine without loss, slipped to a precarious position of 118 for five.

The pair, who came together when skipper Darren Ganga (37) was brilliantly caught at shot leg by Donwell Hector diving to his right off leg-spinner Shane Shillingford, batted both sensibly and responsibly.

The right-handed Bravo hit three fours and a six, while Ramdin, who was out with only seven runs remaining, belted four fours.

With one run remaining to get, Reyad Emrit was the seventh man out when he was caught by wicket-keeper Lyndon James off fast bowler Nelon Pascal for nought.

Shillingford bowled impressively to finish with two for 58, while Nelon Pascal and Deighton Butler finished with identical figures of two for 35.

Amit Jaggernauth with his 12 wickets for 133 runs in the match, was named Man of the Match.
