A man who is accused of con-spiring with another man to throw a corrosive substance on his wife is to be tried on June 2 for murdering his wife.
He is Michael Laoe, a 41-year-old battery technician, of a Kingston 11 address. He is charged with the murder of his wife, Charmaine, who was doused with acid in June 2005.
Laoe's bail was extended yester-day when he appeared in the Home Circuit Court. He is on bail in the sum of of $650,000 with a surety.
He was first charged with aiding and abetting, conspiracy and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, but after his wife died weeks later, he was charged with murder.
The allegations are that Laoe conspired with another man to throw acid on his wife. About 8:30 a.m. on June 10, 2005, Mrs Laoe was on her way to work at the Constant Spring Tax Office, when on reaching the gate of her workplace, she was approached by a man who doused her with acid. Onlookers chased the attacker and beat him to death.
The complainant suffered third-degree burns to more than 40 per cent of her body and died weeks later. Mr Laoe was subsequently arrested and charged.
