Extradition appeal put off for men on drug charge
published: Tuesday | March 11, 2008

THE APPEAL brought by St Ann businessman Norris 'Deedo' Nembhard, Police Corporal Herbert Henry and four other men against their extradition orders was put off yesterday until May 5.

An adjournment was granted after the Court of Appeal pointed out that the hearing would last more than a week and the court was going on recess on Friday for two weeks.

Colombian barber Luis Miguel Arias and Jamaicans Robroy Williams, also called 'Spy', Glenford Williams and Vivian Dalley are the other men who were ordered extradited.

Wanted on drug charges

They are wanted in the United States (US) to face charges for conspiracy to export cocaine to the US between 1998 and 2004. They were arrested as part of a major international crackdown in drug trafficking among the Jamaican, US, British and Colombian governments.

They are challenging the documents on which they were ordered extradited on the basis that they were not authentic.

Nembhard is also contending that his designation by US President George Bush as a drug kingpin would prevent him from getting a fair trial.

Nembhard and Jamaican businessman Leebert Ramcharan of Montego Bay have been designated drug kingpins.

Ramcharan and Jamaican businessman Donovan 'Plucky' Williams who were extradited last year to face drug-related charges in the US were convicted last week in a court in Florida. They will be sentenced in May.
