Travel spots to avoid
published: Sunday | March 9, 2008

More Jamaican businesses have been looking to Haiti and its seven-million population to grow their markets.

But the Caribbean country has been ranked as one of the world's most dangerous places to visit.

Haiti has been cited for the selling of guns, named as a cocaine transhipment point and a place where bribery thrives.

Additionally, street gangs often abduct persons for ransom, with news reports during the Christmas period saying kidnappings had risen as financing sources for holiday shopping.

Haiti has been placed in the company of countries like Iraq and Somalia as travel destinations to avoid.
