THE EDITOR, Sir:
Dr David Thwaites (comments in February 22 edition of The Gleaner) is advising the Church to stay out of the discussion on abortion! I wonder if he knows what the Church represents. It would seem that he doesn't even have a clue who God is.
Based on his words, which I quote here: "God should take care of God's business and the Government should work on behalf of the people." It is clear that although he claims to be part of the Anglican Church, he doesn't know God.
Isaiah 9:6 clearly states of Jesus Christ, "The Government shall be upon his shoulder." Again, Psalm 75:7 says, "But God is the judge. He putteth down one, and setteth up another." How can you disassociate God from the affairs of the people?
A country without God
Doctor, would you want to live in a country where God has no part in governance? That would mean having no laws; no 'thou shalt not kill', no 'thou shalt not steal', no 'obey magistrates and kings'. What would you like, Dr Thwaites, anarchy? Even if you don't mind a godless society, I am sure there are almost three million other people in Jamaica who wish to see and live in a just society, where there is law and order.
This, sir, is not possible without the laws God has instituted for proper governance.
One more thing, Dr Thwaites, the learned doctor needs to realise that even if all the abortions he did were for church people, it would still be wrong.
I am, etc.,
