Defending champions march to victory
published: Sunday | March 2, 2008

DEFENDING WESTERN Zone champions of the ISSA basketball competition Herbert Morrison repeated on Friday when they won the third game in the best-of-three finals 79-62 over Muschette for a 2-1 victory at Jarrett Park.

Muschette had levelled the series on Thursday with a 72-59 victory.

As it was on Monday, Dwayne Johns and Jeron Perkins were the key players for Herbert Morrison who never trailed in any of the quarters. Johns, recorded another double-double of 38 points and 18 rebounds to go along with eight steals and five assists.

Perkins too had a double-double of 21 points and 16 rebounds to go with six steals and seven assists.

Muschette, while being competitive throughout, never looked like they would overtake the champions. They narrowed the gap in the second half but were undermined by key players getting into foul trouble.

For Muschette, their best players were Antoniel Watson, who had a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds, and Fitzroy Gordon with 16 points.

In the Under-16 competition, William Knibb defeated Cornwall 63-56 to take the best-of-three finals 2-1.

Jamari Hines and Sage Hall had 19 points each for William Knibb while Ricardo Greaves had 21 for Cornwall.
