First Global Bank launches award for Jamaican women
published: Sunday | March 2, 2008

Wayne Wray - File

First Global Bank has announced the establishment of a special award in recognition of women. The First Global Bank Vision Award is geared at initiating an awards programme that seeks to highlight the invaluable contribution of women to the Jamaican society.

The Vision Award was coined to recognise women who, through the use of extraordinary insight and foresight, pursued a sphere of endeavour in any field or sector that ultimately impacted positively on the lives of others.

In speaking about the primary motivating factor behind the creation of this award Wayne Wray, president of First Global Bank, indicated that: "In a time when women are playing a significant role in nation building all across Jamaica, there is a consistent call to both recognise their personal investment, and to provide a public forum wherein their work can not only be acknowledged, but also used as a national example to the current and ensuing generation of women."

Sponsorship

In its show of agreement with the mandate of this programme, The Gleaner Company's Flair Magazine has joined with First Global Bank as an associate sponsor of this year's programme. Highlighting why The Gleaner Company saw it fit to come on board, its corporate affairs and marketing manager Karin Cooper noted that company's acknowledgement of the role of women in building the society is demonstrated in Gleaner products such as the Flair Magazine, Women In Charge series and the annual Phenomenal Woman publication.

In the coming weeks, the five nominees for this year's award and their respective endeavours will be portrayed in the Flair Magazine. The 2008 winner will thereafter be announced at a special banquet at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel on May 14.
