COOLIDGE, Antigua:HALF CENTURIES from Dwayne Bravo and William Perkins, who combined for an important 86-run fourth wicket partnership, led Trinidad and Tobago to a convincing 59-run win over St Vincent in their quarter-final match in the Stanford Twenty20 competition on Wednesday night.
Trinidad and Tobago, last year's beaten finalists, now await the winner of tonight's second quarter-final match-up between Grenada and Barbados, also at the Stanford Cricket Ground.Replying to Trinidad and Tobago's 166 for seven, St Vincent and the Grenadines were restricted to 107 for eight.
Aggressive strokes
Bravo and opener Perkins came together after the loss of Lendl Simmons (17), Daren Ganga (10) and Kieron Pollard (two) at 49 for three. And, despite three wickets down, neither was reserved in shot selection as they stroked the ball aggressively to all parts of the ground. They reached their half centuries within minutes of each other but, shortly after, both were dismissed in similar fashion, bowled by Keon Peters at 160 for five.Bravo made 62 off 34 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes while Perkins got 56 off 44 balls with four fours and two sixes. Fast bowler Peters ended with 2-27.
Faltered
At their turn at bat, St Vincent and the Grenadines, who lost Miles Bascombe, caught at point by Dave Mohammed off Mervyn Dillon without a run on the board, slipped to 36 for six in the 10th over.Captain Deighton Butler (33 not out) and Alston Bobb (27) added 52 runs for the seventh wicket, which took their team above 100. Samuel Badree, who was on a hat-trick, took 2-9. Sherwin Ganga picked up 2-18 towards the end.Losing captain Butler said his side suffered in all areas. "We started good in the field, but lost it in the middle overs where they got away from us ... I think 168 was still a gettable total on this ground. We needed to get a good start, but we didn't and that set us back," Butler said.Bravo, who was awarded US$25,000 for being the Man of the Match, said, despite the poor start, he knew once he was in the middle, a good total was always on the cards.
