Of birthdays, love and balls
published: Friday | February 15, 2008

Romae Gordon - Winston Sill/Freelance Photographer

And so, my dears, with love in the air and all, sweet-things, it's been one fabulous week, and then some! Yesterday proved one very hot Valentine's Day, with Kingston's preferred restaurants and eateries humming like a fab beehive!

It was, however, a fine day for a party, and partying there was aplenty. To begin with, it was a double celebration for Kingston's reigning first couple of haute chic, style king Kingsley Cooper and his fabulous companion, the doyen of haute-fabulissimo, Romae Gordon, who celebrated her birthday yesterday. Cooper celebrated continued business success.

Also celebrating on Valentine's Day was the charming judge and scholar, Marlene Malahoo-Forte. And word here, too, is that this one was also a very intimate do!

Inimitable style

On Tuesday the 12th, however, it was the turn of Carl Bliss of Jamaica National to celebrate his birthday, and that he did in his own inimitable style - a musical and then some, as friends gathered to toast the years gone by, while looking to those ahead, and it made for some very pleasant anecdotal memories.

The very artistic Weston Haughton celebrates his special day today, and this, too, promises to be another fine celebration, toasting a life committed to the arts, high fashion and the identifying and unearthing of talent.

And belated birthday greetings to the absolutely-fab Nevine Heaven, who celebrated her birthday on Monday. Many happy returns, y'all, with champagne toasts and beluga treats.

Then, my dears, if y'all missed last night's exhibition at the ultra-fab Round Hill Hotel and Villas, over there near Montego Bay, signalling the opening of the Hanover Charities 2008 activities, then y'all missed a social masterpiece and then some!

My dears, we are talking a mighty fine outing here that saw leading citizens of the Second City and its neighbouring enclaves of fine and residential resort communities out in fine regalia in support of their favourite causes. It was quite the do!

Fabulous turnout

Luvs, the precursor to tomorrow night's staging of the annual Sugar Cane Ball at the world-famous Round Hill, Wednesday night's Art Exhibition, embraced a fabulous turnout of the elegant, and this was despite a downpour that occasioned one almighty traffic snarl in the notorious Bogue neighbourhood.

Rains or not my dears, it was a hot calendar number, and so this did not stop the fab from putting in an appearance. And so it was, with Josef Forstmayr being the host emeritus, the well-to-do and the chic were out and in fine mettle for the show.

Among those spotted in the bustling gathering were: the illustrious Jag Mehta and his fabulous wife Simone Mehta, in from London; Sue McManus; Catherine Casserly; David Holland and his divine wife Fenella Kennedy-Holland; Bruce Hart, the charming Caroline DeLisser; Katherine Pinto-May; the stunning Cecile Levee and her cousin the fabulous Karen Neita; Kerry-Ann Clarke; Douglas Gordon; Horace and Dominic Peterkin; Vanessa Taylor; Chrissy Gourzong; and Peter and Donnia Bovell, in from Florida; plus many others.

Now, my daahlings, it's all about tomorrow night's premier social event, the gala outing that is the Sugar Cane Ball, and dears, the international celebs have already began arriving for the affair, and how!

Luvs, Ralph and Ricky Lauren are just two of the international jet-setters and Round Hill guests who are flying in for the annual fundraiser, and dears, it promises to be an 'A-list' affair and nothing but!

And speaking of the fabulous, if y'all missed last Friday's staging of Fine Art Fridays by the very charming and enterprising duo of Nicola Rosen and Nicola McConnel of Island Craft, that fabulous little treasure trove of collectibles, objets d'art and fine pieces, located over there in the Orchid Village, in Liguanea, hosted another of their much anticipated Fine Art Fridays last week.

Civilised outing

Representing a civilised outing with the added opportunity not only to pick up a few rare and/or treasured pieces, Fine Art Fridays is th to the bar-hopping escapades that represent the norm for some on a Friday.

Nothing but the finer things of life on offering here, in what is most certainly an oasis of fine and distinctive taste for those who dare to live, not above the clock, but beyond the ordinary, as here, it's not just fine items that are on offer, but the watchword here is élan, and nothing but, and thus making for a fabulous discourse.

My daahlings, it was like that last Friday, and then some, The Orchid Village, the preferred place to be, but more specifically, Island Craft, where beauty in craft, art, bric-a-brac, and all things precious are available.

Luvs, definitely the way to go here, and thumbs up for the Nicolas!
