published: Friday | February 15, 2008

A 17-year-old youth who attempted to rob a taxi operator at gunpoint on Molynes Road, St Andrew, yesterday, was apprehended and handed over to the police, along with the firearm he was carrying.

The youngster, of Sterling Avenue, Kingston 11, was charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, assault with intent to rob, shooting with intent and unlawful wounding.

According to police reports, about 12:30 p.m., the youth boarded a taxi along Molynes Road. On reaching a section of the roadway, he ordered the driver to stop, pulled a firearm and demanded money from him. When his demand was not met, he fired at the driver, who held on to the gun.

Handed over to the police

A struggle developed between them and passers-by who saw what was happening held on to the youth and managed to wrest the gun from him. He, along with the gun, a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol with serial number erased, five 9 mm cartridges and a spent shell, was subsequently handed over to the police.

Meanwhile, the Olympic Gardens police have still not ascertained the reason behind the killing of 16-year-old Sasha-gaye Ricketts of Hibiscus Avenue, and 40-year-old Alvin Henderson of Pelican Parade, Kingston 11.

Reports from the police are that about 9:45 p.m., residents heard explosions and summoned the police. On the arrival of the lawmen, a blue Nissan Sunny motor car was seen parked on the roadway. Upon investigation the body of the female was found on the back seat of the car and Henderson in the trunk, both with gunshot wounds.
