No sweat for P'more'sU-21 team
published: Sunday | February 3, 2008

End-of-round finalists Portmore United registered a comfortable 2-0 victory over August Town at Ferdie Neita Park on Friday in the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF)/Coca-Cola National Under-21 league.

Portmore United will face Harbour View in next Sunday's final at the Harbour View Mini Stadium starting at 4:00 p.m.

Desmond Smith, coach of Portmore United ,was pleased with his team's performance.

"We didn't play up to expectation because as you know the guys have already qualified for the end-of-round final," said Smith.

"I told the guys to just go out there and pass around the ball and avoid fifty-fifty tackles and also make sure that they did not pick up any unnecessary cards.

"We will have to step up the preparation for the final. We also need to work on our finishing because we haven't been scoring a lot of goals, but our defence has been standing up strong for us thus far."

'Tough loss'

Kenneth Wilson, coach of August Town said: "It was a very tough loss but things are coming together for us now. I think we will have a better second round once we put in the hard work with the new players which we recently recruited."

Richard Reid gave Portmore United the lead in the 41st minute when he fired home a powerful shot past goalkeeper Omarro Simms.

August Town's Kemar Cousins came close to giving his team the equaliser on the stroke of half-time but his effort hit the crossbar.

Akeem Thenstead doubled Portmore United's lead in the 59th minute when he out-sprinted three August Town defenders to calmly slot the ball past Simms at his near post.
