Two the hard way - Waterhouse, Harbour View battling for last end-of-round berth

Although they are drawn against different opponents, today's Cash Plus Premier League games will feature a straight fight between Waterhouse and Harbour View for the remaining end-of-second-round final.

Of the two teams competing for the place to join end-of-first-round losing finalist Tivoli Gardens in this end-of-round final, Waterhouse have the advantage. They are three points ahead and need just a draw away to August Town to advance.

On form alone, Waterhouse should beat August Town, who are second from bottom in the league, but occasionally even no-hopers cause upsets as happened last Sunday when Village United stopped the then second round leaders and home team, Water-house 2-0.

"I do not expect lightning to strike the same place twice. Against Village United, we did not expect to lose two goalkeepers and that is what happened so we have to put that behind us and look ahead," Waterhouse coach Wayne Fairclough said looking ahead to today's game.

Need to secure place

As far as the game and advancing are concerned, Fairclough is fully aware of the position his charges find themselves in.

"I know that we are in a position that if we slip, we will slide. So, we will have to ensure that we get these three points from August Town to secure our place," explained Fairclough who will now have Leon Strickland, Roberto Fletcher, Newton Sterling all forward signings in the transfer window, from which to choose a striker to accompany either Jomo Gordon or Kevin Lamey.

Goalkeeper Maurice Evans, former national youth custodian, will take over in goal following injury to first choice 'keeper Richard McCallum and the suspension of his deputy.

Rediscovered spirit

Harbour View on the other hand will host the tough Arnett Gardens at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium.

The 'Junglists' as Arnett Gardens are called, have rediscovered their renowned fighting spirit since the return of Jerome Waite as coach.

With that being the case, Harbour View coach Lenworth Hyde knows that his task will not be easy.

"We just want to win and take it from there. We did not want to be in this situation where we had to be hoping for other results, but I guess this is happening because we did not take care of business in the last game," Hyde said.

"Whatever happens, the three points are important and we want these three points to get closer to the leaders, even if we do not make it to the end of round final," added Hyde, who will have a fully fit squad to choose from.

Among those who should be key to a Harbour View win are the trim-looking Jermaine Hue, Fabian Taylor, Kavin Bryan, Lovel Palmer and goalkeeper Dwayne Miller.

In other games, Portmore United, despite their struggles in this round, should get the better of Reno at Ferdie Neita Park, while Seba United should rediscover their winning touch when they take on Sporting Central at Jarrett Park.

Seeking crucial points

Village United had a big win last week when they played away and would want another important scalp when they host Boys' Town.

Village have improved their play and performance under Paul 'Tegat' Davis, but are yet to climb off the bottom of the table.

Boys' Town have been picking up crucial points of late which include last Thursday's dying seconds win over Seba United.

St Georges have been on a losing run for the past four weeks and could not have asked for a better venue to start their rebound.

They have lost only two matches at Lynch Park and with a fully fit squad to choose from, they could cut down leaders Tivoli Gardens.

All six games today kick off at 3:00 p.m.
