Calabar High's Warren Weir and Rosemarie Carty of Alpha Academy recorded impressive victories at the Youngster-Goldsmith Hurdles and Field Events meet at the National Stadium East field yesterday.

Weir won the Class One boys 110m hurdles in 13.79 seconds ahead of St. Jago's Akeem Smith (13.86) and Simon Dickens of Jamaica College's Emergence Track Club (14.26).

Weir said after the race that he was pleased with his performance. "I am satisfied with this race even though I didn't get a good start," said Weir.

"The competitor in the lane beside me was also hitting me so I didn't get to put a hundred per cent in the race," Weir explained.

Carty captured the Class One girls 100m hurdles in 14.08 from the Wolmer's pair of Janelle Gordon (14.21) and Keisha Wallace (14.26).

Happy with effort

Carty, who is in her first year in Class One, was happy with her effort.

"I am happy with this time," said Carty. "I hope to continue to do my best for the rest of the season and hopefully, I can win the gold at Champs."

Ramone McKenzie of Calabar swept to victory in the Class One boys 100m in 10.86 ahead of teammates Jermaine Brown (11.02) and Oshaine Bailey (11.11). Earl Lee, also of Calabar, won the boys' Class Two 100m in 11.08 beating Kingston College's (KC) Jovan Brown (11.21) and St. Jago's Clayon Bailey (11.39).

Shawna Anderson of Edwin Allen copped the girls' Class One 100m in 12.27 ahead of Vere Technical's Crystal Thomas (12.45) and Gayon Evans, also of Edwin Allen (12.46).

Peta-Gay Beckford of Vere Technical captured the Class Two girls 100m in 12.33 in front of St. Jago's Nastasia Walker (12.53) and Velma Morant also of Vere Technical (12.56).
